Eikon: The Fest 16

Photos by Miranda Jayne

The Fest returned to Gainesville, Florida this October to celebrate its sweet 16 with a homecoming from local legends, Against Me! and plenty of PBR. The punk rock family reunion takes place yearly over three days, incorporates multiple venues, and features hundreds of punk bands. You’re always guaranteed to leave with at least 20 new favorite bands and 50 new best friends.

I’m honored to have been able to serve as a documentarian for The Fest for a second year. Here are my favorite images from the weekend:

Eikon: MAX Live in Kansas City

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Every summer in Kansas City, MO you can always count on local radio station Mix 93.3 to put on their annual Red, White and Boom concert. This year it was packed with both new and familiar faces. Fortunately, part of this year’s show was free, letting those of all ages have a little fun out in the sun.

MAX was one of the featured artists at the free show and then he went on to perform at the main stage show later in the evening. Though the heat was almost unbearable, MAX brought an untouchable energy to the stage where he performed his hits ‘Gibberish’ and ‘Lights Down Low’. He also made sure to get the crowd involved in his upbeat song ‘Basement Party’ and everyone seemed to be having a good time. MAX is on another level and so is his music. If you are searching for new music to listen to, I can’t recommend his album Hell’s Kitchen Angel enough.

Find him on Twitter and Instagram at @maxgschneider.

Warped Tour is undoubtedly the highlight of every alternative music fan’s summer. No two dates are ever the same, so you’re never quite sure what you’re going to encounter when you set foot on festival grounds. Orlando’s stop happened to include a summer storm and a surprise set by Central Florida’s own Wage War.

This year, bands like Blessthefall, Neck Deep, Silverstein, and War on Women grace the tour’s six stages. The tour will continue through the first week of August, so make sure you have your tickets!

Here’s a peek into our very first Warped:

Eikon: The Fest 15, Gainesville Rock City

The Fest is not just a concert, The Fest is a community.

When I first came to Gainesville, Florida five years ago for school, I never imagined this little town could play host to the biggest family reunion the world has ever seen. Every year, more than 350 bands and thousands of fans descend on the city for three PBR fueled days of music, friendship, comedy, and even wrestling.

Fest is a place where the person next to you in the pit automatically becomes your best friend. It’s a place where you can discover your new favorite band and have a beer with them right after their set. I’ve never felt more comfortable and connected to those around me at a show than I do when I step into a Fest venue, and it’s an experience I recommend to any wayward music fan looking for a place to belong.

I had the absolute pleasure of being part of the team documenting this year’s Fest-ivities and was able to work alongside bands and fans who had come from all over the world to take part. Here are just a few of my favorite moments from the best 3 days of the year.

Music Midtown: Summer’s Not Over Yet

If you’re just not ready to wake up and smell the freshly sharpened pencils of a new school year, there’s one more way to hold onto the summer. Atlanta’s Music Midtown may be one of the final fests of the season, but it boasts a lineup so incredible you’re sure to forget all about decorating your dorm room.

If seeing Joe Jonas’ infectiously catchy band DNCE on the same stage as emo pop heroes Twenty One Pilots isn’t enough to knock you out of your back to school blues, the lure of catching the ever elusive The Killers should seal the deal. The festival will also host Euterpe faves, Kesha, Alabama Shakes, Chvrches, and The Coathangers.

We hope to rock out with all of you under the shadow of the Atlanta skyline next month! For more information, visit musicmidtown.com.
